(called the Basilica)\par
The oldest of the temples still standing on the site, it was built a
round the middle of the sixth century BC. Like all Greek temples it is oriented toward the east. It has nine Doric \b \cf1 \ATXht3 columns\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 at the front and eighteen on the sides. Parts of the architrave, of the Doric frieze, made of lime
stone and composed of \b \cf1 \ATXht20 triglyphs\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 and \b \cf1 \ATXht13 metopes\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 , and of the cornice with lion-head eaves have been preserved. Passing from the portico to the inside of the temple, one came into the \b \cf1 \ATXht16 pronaos\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 , whose entrance consisted of three columns set between two pillars. The naos was set at a higher level than the pronaos and split into two naves by a row of seven columns, three of which are still standing. In the rear par
t of the naos a further division marked the area where the thesaurus of the temple was located.
